Frankie Edgar is heading to Rio to challenge Jose Aldo for the featherweight strap

Talk about an initiative to diet. Frankie just needs to lose ten pounds to step up to the plate and challenge featherweight demigod Jose Aldo for his belt. First off: let’s all cross our fingers that this actually happens. It’s getting to the point where it’s hard for us to believe anything is really happening in the fight game anymore. It’s kind of an existential MMA nightmare. But it’s also comforting to know that if Frankie and Jose really do clash at UFC 153 in Rio, that there’s a surprisingly good chance that they will fight again in the somewhat near future.

USA Today got the news straight from Dana White after he rode an emotional rollercoaster that he never wanted to get on.

“Obviously, we’ve had a rough couple of weeks here at the UFC, and then sure enough, I walk in to work today, and Erik Koch is hurt,” “But Frankie Edgar, being the stud and the warrior that he is, steps up and accepts this fight.”

“I’m pumped,”  “I think that people are going to be very excited for this fight.

“Frankie has had a tough go the last couple of times with the judges, but a lot of people think he belongs at 145 pounds. Well, here we go – Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar. People have been wanting to see this fight for a long time.”

October 13th can’t come soon enough. The Rio crowd is going to be bonkers.
