Frankie Edgar is heading down to the UFC’s Bantamweight division.

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar has fought in both the promotions Lightweight and Featherweight divisions. Due to an ostensible title eliminator loss against Brian Ortega as well as losses from Jose Aldo and Max Holloway for titles, camp Edgar in accompanied with manager Ali Abdelaziz has officially decided to move down to unchartered territory for the legend; the Bantamweight division.

”We have already started discussing Frankie’s bantamweight debut,” Abdelaziz told ESPN. “We’re hoping it will be at UFC 244 on Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden, but 100 percent Frankie’s next fight will be at 135 pounds.”

Edgar went (8-4) during his term in the Featherweight division. He tested himself for the title THREE times, losing to Jose Aldo twice and to Max Holloway at UFC 240. Fans were in awe when they noticed the size difference between Edgar and Brian Ortega, who made easy work of Edgar and scored a thunderous KO victory over Frankie at UFC 222 in Las Vegas.

It wasn’t just the fans who noticed the difference in bulk amidst competitors when Frankie climbed into the octagon. His longtime head coach Mark Henry also has regarded that Frankie’s size was giving him problems in the cage.

“It feels like a new beginning for us,” coach Henry told ESPN. “I love the kid, and I feel it will be safer for him at 135. He always does better when he fights guys his own size. When he’s fighting guys with similar height and range, sometimes they still weigh more than him, but I feel like it’s an even playing field. He was barely cutting any weight at featherweight. I think during this last camp, he was 152 pounds a few weeks before the fight. And he hadn’t started cutting yet.”

Cutting the right amount of weight ordinarily instills extra preparation in a fighter heading into their next bout. With a host of unique fresh matchups in the Bantamweight division, who would you like to see take on Frankie Edgar next?

UFC double champ of the Flyweight and Bantamweight Divisions Henry Cejudo called out Edgar after his last victory against TJ Dillashaw. Will the stars align for these two to finally square off? Or, would you like to see Frankie take on a different opponent? Stay tuned for more.
