On the surface, Fight Church is a look at the juxtaposition of regulated violence and the harmony of a pious life. But to me, it’s a look at how a human reacts when they realize their god has chosen someone else to be a better man then they are in a physical competition. We’ve seen it so many times before; athletes having the power of Jesus Christ flow through them, they’ve even confirmed it in so many post-fight speeches: the son of God helped them defeat their opponent and they thank him. Now we see what happens when, in theory, the most powerful performance enhancer known to mankind meets itself head-on in fist-a-cuffs. Are faiths destroyed in this documentary by Oscar winning filmmaker Daniel Junge?
