Fedor/UFC deal actually happened five years ago

Ever since M-1 Global insisted that the UFC co-promote in order to get Fedor inside the octagon, co-promotion has been the new go to phrase this summer. If your roommate tries to get you to clean the dishes, just tell him that without an official co-promotion you can’t accept his offer. If the chick at Taco Bells tries to give you anything less than ‘fire-sauce‘, let her know that without a co-promotion you will be forced to gather up every single packet of ‘mild-sauce’ and individually throw them into her face. Co-promotion is in style. Co-promotion is the new black. UK based Fighters Only Magazine (looks like we’re excluded in owning one of those) recently interviewed M-1 Global’s chief operating officer, Joost Raimond (dude’s name sounds like an energy drink) and this is what he had to say regarding the Fedor entering the UFC:

“There have been many conversations with the UFC in the past. I mean, we started talking to the UFC probably four or five years ago. There have been meetings in the past Dana White.

That’s one of the problems, there’s never been talk of a co-promotion between the UFC and M-1…Its something that we would want and be open for, but I guess its not something that fits in with the UFC’s philosophy, to co-promote with other organisations.”

Fedor not tangling with Brock Lesnar is somewhat of a bummer, but we always look on the bright side. At least our Top Ten Reasons Fedor vs. Brock will never happen list isn’t obsolete (although we know we need to update it. Affliction is sort of…not here anymore). [Source]
