Fedor may fight on New Years Eve in Japan

There are just two years left until the end of the Mayan calendar. The only positive side of that is you never have to see another commercial for ‘Cantina’ Tacos from Taco Bell. It’s bad enough they put their marketing Chihuahua to sleep last year, but now they’re trying to confuse people into thinking they know what real carnitas look like. Miguel Torres is not amused. I’d rather live on recreational oxygen canisters, saltine crackers and packets of ketchup than endure any experimental impulse those commercials serve up.

If the world does come to an end, it’s only right that it ends after Fedor fights in Japan one last time, and Vadim Finkelstein wants to make that happen. With Fabricio Werdum sidelined sometime until 2011, M-1 Global has been shopping Fedor to other promotions that are willing to co-promote an event with the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

“We plan to organize an interim fight for Fedor. We are considering two options: Japan and Russia. We have a lucrative offer from the Japanese partners, who are interested in Fedor fighting on the New Year’s Eve. This is the most interesting option for us. But we are also not exluding an option that Fedor Emelianenko will fight in Russia, sometime in December. We have to organize another fight for Fedor, as Fabricio Werdum is currently injured and no one knows when he will come back. Strikeforce have absolutely nothing against the rematch, that’s exactly why we are planning the last fight on Fedor’s contract to be against Werdum.”

Strikeforce has yet to solidify an interim opponent, but the rumors of Bigfoot Silva being the next man to face Fedor are slowly diminishing. It’s good news if you’re a fan of Japanese MMA, and it’s really good news that Fedor vs. Barnett may finally go down like it was supposed to last year. It’s almost like M-1 Global is resurrecting that dead horse and giving it a new chance at life. DREAM has been looking to issue a heavyweight championship belt for months, and this might be their golden opportunity with Fedor available to headline the Dynamite!! card. That marks the end of hope for Fedor vs Ubereem in the near future. It’s sounding more and more likely that the Demolition Man will battle Bigfoot next. Either way, they’ll all fight again by the end of the year, and you still have time to stock up on cans of horse meat before the apocalypse. [Source]
