After Khamzat Chimaev’s win over Robert Whittaker, UFC President Dana White mentioned that Khamzat could have jumped ahead of Sean Strickland for the next middleweight title shot.
Middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis said he would much rather fight Khamzat than face Strickland again. He also hinted that he might defend his title at UFC 312 in Sydney, February.
However, Strickland said he wouldn’t fight in Australia, which could open the door for Khamzat to get the shot. Khamzat also mentioned he would be attending UFC 312 for fan meet-and-greets as a guest.

Robert Whittaker believes Khamzat Chimaev should be next in line for a title shot. One reason Khamzat hasn’t fought much recently is that he had trouble getting a visa to compete in the United States. However, with Donald Trump’s return as president, Khamzat might now be able to fight there again, especially after Trump gave him a mention before his last bout.
Most fans and experts agree that Khamzat should face the title shot next, and Whittaker, following his loss to Khamzat, shares the same opinion.
