I use to be a member of a group on facebook called ‘running over flowers in my panzer’. I loved it just because I was really amused by the idea of jumping into a massive 60 ton piece of machinery and wrecking havoc upon some of my neighbors overzealously landscaped yards. I guess its like the grown up version of an angst filled teenager turfing the nosey neighbors lawn with Daddy’s car on a Friday night.
I think there is something inside all of us that occassionally wants to get behind the controls of a virtually indestructable mass of armor and rampantly destroy an adversary. Maybe that’s what seperates a fight fan from a fighter: the fight fan wants to drive the tank, but the fighter wants to be the tank. I don’t know if every fighter feels that way, but Jon Jones certainly does. By now we all know Bones is headed for battle this weekend at UFC 145 but what you might not know is just how ready he is. In a pic tweet last night while looking nicely cut up-he deemed himself the ‘220 lb war machine’.
Look out now-we’ve got a lean, mean, self deemed war machine headed to war with Rashad’s fully stocked armory and I managed to write this piece about war, tanks and Jon Jones without using the term ‘explosive’. Hopefully somewhere out there Phil Davis is smiling and shedding a prideful tear for me.
