UFC 245 Adds Faber vs Yan

UFC 245 is already one of the most stacked cards of the year. However, the card just received an incredible new edition. With three title fights already in place, UFC 245 will add legend Urijah Faber taking on Petr Yan in a bantamweight bout.

The matchup will be a key component in the forward progression of the UFC’s bantamweight division. Currently, the bantamweight division appears to be log-jammed at the top. The fluid movement of contenders, injuries, and comebacks has made 135lbs impossible to map out.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto confirms the news:

Breaking: Urijah Faber vs. Petr Yan is in the works for UFC 245 on Dec. 14 in Las Vegas. Huge fight for both. Faber trying to chase down his fifth UFC title shot. Yan chasing his first. More coming to @espn .

State of the Bantamweights

From Aljamain Sterling and champion Henry Cejudo’s injuries to the comebacks of Faber and Dominick Cruz, it’s hard to say who will fight who. One certainty is that Faber will take on Yan. The bout will most likely get the winner a title shot or at the very least a shot at title contention.

Faber vs Yan

Faber is coming off of a tremendous first-round TKO victory of Ricky Simon at UFC Sacramento. However, before that bout, Faber was enjoying retirement from the sport. Now, he looks to climb the UFC’s bantamweight divisions in hopes of securing the 135lb title.

Yan, on the other hand, hasn’t lost a fight since 2016. He’s also undefeated in his UFC career with 5 wins and no losses in the span of around one year. Yan has only a single loss on his entire MMA record (13-1) Faber will be by far the highest-profile fight that Yan has ever competed in during his time with the UFC.

UFC 245 takes place on December 14th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The card is shaping up to be one of the best of the year:
