Rob Font is taking his bout against Adrian Yanez seriously.
The UFC bantamweight division has been on fire of late. The top ten fighters are immensely talented and are all hungry to move up the ranks and possibly into a title contention spot. Two men that could be put in this position by the end of the year if all goes right are Rob Font and Adrian Yanez. These two will be facing off against each other on the UFC 287 fight card scheduled for April 8 in Miami.
In the leadup to this bout, Font sat down for an exclusive interview with Middle Easy to discuss his next opponent and how he sees the fight playing out.
Rob Font is not overlooking the young Adrian Yanez
Font is currently ranked sixth in the division, he is coming off two tough losses to two very tough opponents. He lost his most recent to Marlon Vera who has been mentioned in title talks and the loss before that was to the former longtime champion Jose Aldo. Font is not overlooking the young Yanez in this bout and in fact, is taking it just as seriously as his last two fights.
“The best thing about him right now is he has a lot of momentum on his side. He’s a well-rounded striker. He has a lot of fights underneath his belt. I’m not sure exactly what his record is. I know it’s up there and he’s on a five-fight win streak, so he’s doing his thing,” he said. “I think he’s another tough fight, I’m taking this fight very seriously. I’m not seeing this as like, this young up-and-comer kid you know, I’m seeing this as it’s grown-ass man, coming to take my head off. This is just another tough fight just as if it was a Chito or an Aldo fight you know? So I’m here. I’m not looking past this kid at all.”
Font and Yanez are known for being some of the best boxers in the bantamweight division and perhaps in the UFC as a whole. He knows that boxing will play a crucial role in this bout but is expecting to mix it up once the fight gets going.
“I can see how naturally I think it’s going to start boxing for sure. Definitely, I plan on mixing it up as far as like, even with the wrestling, the elbows, knees, but it all starts with the hands and I think our styles naturally, we’re going to stay in there and trade for a few.”
Yanez will be coming into this bout ranked 12 in the division. He will be looking to take down Font and perhaps make his way into the top ten. If it is up to Font that will not be happening. He plans of getting back to his winning ways on April 8 in front of the South Florida crowd.
