Evangelista Santos Won’t Return To MMA After Skull-Crushing Flying Knee

Broken Skull Was Just Too Much For Evangelista Santos

Evangelista Santos maybe isn’t the biggest name in the history of this sport, but he deserves respect. We remember his wars versus Nick Diaz, Melvin Manhoef, Gegard Mousasi, and many others. The former Strikeforce and Cage Rage Welterweight division runner-up is also known as a former husband of Cris Cyborg.

Evangelista Santos (21-18) received many brutal fists, knees, and kicks to the head during his career. But the flying knee versus Michael Page at Bellator 158 on July 16, 2016, could even end his life! After he tried to duck under, Page flew through the air and literally broke his forehead.

Evangelista Santos has already retired once in 2014, after a loss to Melvin Manhoef at Gringo Super Fight 10. Then he defeated Artemas Young at Legacy FC 50 and signed a deal with Bellator MMA. Yet, this time he won’t return for sure.

Evangelista Santos says he was always fighting for love. Money has never been his ultimate motivation. (via bloodyelbow.com)

“I had the privilege of doing 50 fights, and money never was my biggest motivation to fight,” Santos told MMA Fighting. “I’ve always fought for the love for competition, the challenge. That’s what motivated me. I’ve always fought for any money, never choosing who I would fight or for how much.”

Evangelista Santos is an MMA teacher at Chute Boxe Academy in Houston at the moment. He enjoys sharing his knowledge. Evangelista also sees MMA as one of the fastest rising sports on the planet. His ultimate goal is creating champions.

”If I had someone like me early in my journey, I’m sure I would have accomplished everything I have in half of the time. This is what I want to do, get all this knowledge and teach the youth, plant the seed. MMA is the fastest-rising sport in the world and I want to create champions, form better people through the sport. You can change your life and many people’s lives through sports.”

What are your thoughts on this? Is there a chance Evangelista Santos will follow Duane Ludwig’s steps?
