Boxing welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. will be rooting for Kamaru Usman if he were to get a super fight with Canelo Alvarez.
Usman is the number pound-for-pound fighter on the official UFC rankings. Canelo is widely considered to be the best pound-for-pound boxer. Usman has been pounding the table in hopes of getting a boxing match with Canelo.
Errol Spence On Kamaru Usman vs. Canelo Alvarez
The Schmo recently caught up with Errol Spence following a workout session. Spence is set to put his WBC and IBF Welterweight Titles on the line, while also competing for the WBA gold against Yordenis Ugas on April 16.
During the interview, Spence expressed his belief that Kamaru Usman has a better chance of beating Canelo than Conor McGregor had against Floyd Mayweather.
“Yeah, definitely. Usman’s tough, very physical and he’s a guy that trained with my coaches before. So, he’s got a little standup game cause I’ve seen him knock out a few guys with his straight right.”
Spence went on to say that if the fight were to happen, he’d be on Team Usman.
“I don’t know but I know Usman more than I know Canelo. So, I would be on Usman’s side for that fight.”
Usman is expected to put his UFC Welterweight Championship on the line against Leon Edwards this July. The bout hasn’t been made official at this time.
As for Canelo, he’ll be pretty busy in the coming months. He’s set to challenge Dmitry Bivol for the WBA Light Heavyweight Championship on May 7. After that, he’s expected to take on Gennady Golovkin in a trilogy bout in September.
