Edwards vs Woodley Rumored as Co-Main Event for Conor’s Return

Leon Edwards stays ready. No matter if the UFC or fans are behind him or not, Edwards keeps his eye on the prize. Even when the UFC didn’t let Edwards stand in as an alternative for UFC 244, Leon continued to prepare. Now, it appears that Edwards has an opponent of his own to prepare for. According to “Rocky” Edwards, he’s in talks to take on former Welterweight king Tyron Woodley. Additionally, the fight is rumored to happen on the same card as Conor McGregor’s return.

Leon spoke to the media and revealed the UFC’s plans for him. He even noted what he would like to accomplish during the next moves of his career.

Edwards Reveals His UFC Plans

Edwards spoke to Severe MMA about his plans going forward in the UFC. While Masvidal is always a fight that Leon would be willing to accept, his ultimate goal is to attain UFC gold. And, right now, the path to get to that point is to get a rematch against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Regardless of the altercations that Leon had with Masvidal in the past.

“My focus is not on Masvidal,” said Leon. ” I don’t really care about Masvidal. My aim is to be a world champion. I’m going to be a world champion. I’m more into getting a rematch with Usman. Getting revenge and that’s what drives me every day to go in and beat the man that last beat me. To go out there and defeat him for the world title would put more spirit in me to go out and do that,” said Edwards.

Edwards Reveals Tyron Woodley Matchup

Leon then went on to reveal his next upcoming fight and the UFC’s plans with him going forward. Also, Edwards made it known that he wants either the number one contendership status or fighting for the title afterward.

“They said to me this week that they offered Tyron Woodley the fight for January, the same date as Conor (McGregor), the same card as Conor in January,” expressed Leon. “They offered us that fight for the co-main, I said, ‘Yeah,’ and whatever. Let’s just see how these next two fights pan out, Masvidal and Diaz, Usman and Colby, let’s see how they play out and then I want the number one spot, if not the title shot.

Shaping McGregor’s Return

If what Leon said it true, the January 14th card is shaping up to be monumental. McGregor vs an unnamed opponent partnered with Woodley vs Edwards makes for a strong card. Additionally, Diego Sanchez replied to Demian Maia’s callout after UFC Singapore with the same card as the date for the fight.

If all of these fights come to fruition, the card is shaping up to be unforgettable.
