Dustin Poirier is more than happy to accept the BMF title when he beats Justin Gaethje.

UFC lightweight division is one of the most exciting in all of the UFC. There are big-name fighters fighting at 155 pounds all of which are looking for a title shot. However, champion Islam Makhachev is currently without an opponent. That’s not stopping the UFC from creating another belt in the division. Back in 2019, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz fought for the “Baddest Mother-Fu–er Belts aka the BMF title. With Masvidal retiring recently that BMF title is coming out of the closet and now Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje will be fighting for that belt.

Many fans are not impressed by the BMF title considering it is a novelty and not a real championship belt. Gaethje also mentioned that he thought it was “stupid” in a recent interview. Dustin Poirier does not share this view.

Dustin Poirier is happy with his role in the UFC including fighting for the BMF title

Dustin Poirier has been in the UFC since 2011. He has had some big fights over his career including a couple of bouts with Conor McGregor, and two UFC title fights. Although he has never been able to secure that coveted UFC undisputed championship belt, he will gladly accept the BMF title if it is handed to him after his fight against Justin Gaethje.

“I have a great contract, me and the UFC are in a great spot. I’m not a guy complaining about fighter pay, I’m pretty happy with where I’m at and everything I’ve accomplished in the sport,” he said to MMA Junkie. “UFC has given me good opportunities and I’ve been through so many contracts with the company. My first fight in the UFC was New Year’s Day of 2011. So I had to grind my way up to where I’m at now, and I don’t think the BMF belt is stupid, man. I like it and it’s gonna get wrapped around my waist.”
Poirier believes he has what it takes to once again beat Gaethje. These two fought back in 2018 and will be fighting again under the bright lights at UFC 291. Poirier knows there is no other person who would be worthy of fighting for this belt, he believes that he and Gaethje are the most violent fighters in the UFC.
