Dustin Poirier and Jorge Masvidal were not moved by Conor McGregor’s latest training talk before UFC 329.
During a UFC on Paramount segment with Chris Weidman, Masvidal and Poirier were asked about McGregor saying he has been “living, breathing, and sleeping in the gym” ahead of his UFC 329 rematch with Max Holloway. McGregor is scheduled to return against Holloway after five years away from UFC competition.
Masvidal shut down the idea that gym hours alone settle the matchup.
“I don’t care,” Masvidal said. “You can sleep in a garage every day—it doesn’t make you a car.”
Masvidal then pointed to Holloway’s activity against top competition. Holloway, a former UFC featherweight champion and former BMF titleholder, has remained active while McGregor has not fought since his 2021 trilogy bout with Poirier.
“I don’t care how much he’s been sleeping in,” Masvidal said. “What Max has been doing, this, that, that’s the real, that’s the one thing we do know. How many times does Max still fight a year? Twice a year, three times a year, against the world’s best. Every time he’s out, he’s fighting the world’s best.”

Poirier Brings Up Abu Dhabi
Poirier kept his shot tied to their history. At UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi, Poirier stopped McGregor by second-round TKO. McGregor later lost the trilogy at UFC 264 after suffering a leg injury, leaving Poirier up 2-1 in their series.
“Speaking of sleeping, Conor McGregor, I put you to sleep in Abu Dhabi, bud,” Poirier said. “Clip it and rip it. Sleepy Mac.”
McGregor still owns a 2013 decision win over Holloway, but the rematch comes after very different career turns. McGregor became the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champion, then fought only four MMA bouts from 2018 through 2021. Holloway won the UFC featherweight title, built one of the division’s strongest championship runs, and later moved into major lightweight fights.
Masvidal has already picked Holloway to beat McGregor at UFC 329. Poirier also recently said McGregor’s natural punching power will still be there against Holloway, but this exchange was all jab. Poirier used the Abu Dhabi finish as the receipt and turned McGregor’s training claim into another shot before the rematch.
