Dustin Poirier Talks UFC 242 Title Fight Against Khabib Nurmagomedov
Dustin Poirier may have the odds stacked against him for his UFC 242 title fight. However, he does not seem to view it that way.
Dustin Poirier is the interim lightweight champion. He is scheduled to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in September to unify the title. Khabib is a big task for any man. He has 27 foes who have not stood a chance against him, to prove it.
Poirier however, remains confident that he will beat Khabib. He has turned over a new leaf in his career, going on quite the tear lately. Prior to his bout with Khabib, he spoke at the UFC 242 press conference about his plan against Khabib. (via MMAJunkie)
“just be myself, go out there and show the world what I’m capable of. Twenty-seven have tried, and 27 have failed.
A lot of people have been asking me questions like where do I see weaknesses in Khabib’s game or where do I think he makes mistakes. I’ve been sitting back and talking to my coaches and thinking about this, and I don’t really need him to be weak for me to be strong.
I don’t need huge glaring holes. I’m going to create them with my pressure, my fight IQ, my experience, and the amount of rounds and years that I’ve been doing this.”
Dustin Poirier seems very confident. He has been on the best run of his career. Although he is only 30 years old, he has been in the UFC for a long time. Additionally, his will be his first undisputed UFC title shot.
As he alludes to, Dustin Poirier has an unreal resume. At UFC 242, he is trying to add the seemingly unbeatable Khabib Nurmagomedov to that list.
