Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is known to love his roots and represent his people at every opportunity. During his time with the promotion, the 33-year-old fighter has expressed his love for Louisiana on multiple occasions.
On Friday, he got a new opportunity in the NFL to rep his home team.
Dustin Poirier announces NFL Draft pick
At the 2022 NFL Draft, Poirier was chosen as one of the two representatives by the New Orleans Saints to announce the team’s second-round pick. He was joined by NFL player Cam Jordan to reveal Alontae Taylor, a cornerback from the University of Tennessee.
Jordan took to the podium first to let everyone know that they were about to declare the 49th overall pick for the season. Without mentioning the name of the pick, he gave the opportunity to Poirier to disclose the name.

Taylor is coming off a registered career-high of 60 tackles, two interceptions, and six pass breakups in 12 games started as a senior last year.
When will Poirier return to action?
‘The Diamond’ is reeling off a submission loss to reigning UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira suffered at UFC 269. He’s become a fan favorite over the years and his two wins over the biggest draw in the sport Conor McGregor propelled him into stardom.
Along with his wife Jolie, Poirier started his own charity organization called The Good Fight Foundation. The American fighter donates proceedings from the sale of fight-worn gear with other forms of donations. The charity has donated thousands of meals on occasions such as Easter and continues to be a force for the good in the industry.
Currently tied with Justin Gaethje as the number one contender in the division, Poirier does not seem to have a fight lined up next for him. Although there were talks of a clash with Nate Diaz, interest has apparently died down from the UFC amidst contract disputes with Diaz.
