- Dricus du Plessis is just waiting for the UFC to announce his title fight with Israel Adesanya
- “Stillknocks” prefers Khamzat Chimaev over Robert Whittaker as other option
Dricus du Plessis has been ready to defend his title against Isreal Adesanya and would be open to facing Khamzat Chimaev as well.
Dricus already said yes
Speaking to Fight Wave, the reigning middleweight champ pointed out that he already said yes to a showdown with Izzy and has been wondering why the UFC has yet to make it official.
“For me, I’m in and ready. I’ve agreed to everything and I’m ready. I want to do it… That’s the fight I want, I called them up after winning the belt, that’s the fight the fans want to see and at the end of the day, that’s the fight I want to have, that’s the guy I want to fight,” Du Plessis said.
“Let’s just announce this thing, I don’t know what’s the holdup,” he continued. “I want it to be announced. I’ve said yes 100%, I don’t know from his side what the story is, I don’t know what the holdup is. Maybe the UFC is waiting for something, I’m not sure. If we can do 305 in Perth, I would love that.”
“I’ve been ready for it, like I said I’ve agreed to everything, if that’s the fight they want, let’s do it, I don’t know what we’re waiting for, to be honest… I don’t know if it’s a holdup from his side or if it’s the UFC waiting for the right time to announce the fight, but I’m 100% happy with that fight or any other fight they want to make,” he added.
Khamzat could have it too
Du Plessis also revealed his interest in taking on Chimaev if he could beat Robert Whittaker in their upcoming fight. If “Borz” loses, “Stillknocks” thinks Whittaker and Sean Strickland should fight for the next title shot but he is ready to face any of them if the UFC say so.
‘’Should he beat Whittaker, I would love to fight Khamzat,” Du Plessis said. “In my opinion, should Whittaker beat Khamzat, I don’t think it warrants him a title shot. Honestly would love to see him and Strickland fight it out for No. 1 contender fight. I was willing to fight Strickland, Khamzat, Adesanya. I’m champion, I have to fight who they give me. I want to fight the best guy. Strickland fans were like, ‘Fight him again.’ I said ‘guys, I will fight him again.’ I don’t make that decision.”
Du Plessis has been feuding with Adesanya even before he becomes the middleweight champ. But with a number of worthy title contenders at 185, it’s hard to tell if the UFC will go for a grudge match between Du Plessis and Izzy.
