Dos Santos: Brock Lesnar Getting Title Shot Is Completely Unfair, Proves UFC Rankings Don’t work

WWE champion Brock Lesnar to lock horns against two-division champion Daniel Cormier for a title fight by early next year. With many fighters expressed their disdain on Lesnar getting a title shot, latest is former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos who voiced his displeasure how the situation being roll out.

Dos Santos is slated to face ex-WSOF heavyweight king Blagoy Ivanov in the main event of UFC Boise July 14. Before that, Dos Santos (18-5), was on the shelf after losing a title against Stipe Miocic via first-round knockout in May 2017. After the loss, ‘Cigano‘ got shocked when he fell victim to a contaminated supplement in an August 2017 drug test conducted by USADA, insisting he did not intentionally cheat.

After claiming heavyweight title, Daniel Cormier called out Brock Lesnar, who stepped in and stormed the Octagon. Dos Santos says it’s not fair he’s getting title shot as he’s not a clean fighter and winless for eight years. (Via MMAFighting)

”That’s completely unfair, but we know that rankings don’t work in the UFC,” dos Santos said. “Rankings are based on a weird policy, but it’s not cool to see Brock Lesnar skipping the line especially because he didn’t stop fighting because he chose to, he failed a drug test for something he has always used, you can clearly see it.

”He was cut by USADA and now he returns like it’s something positive, but it’s not. He adds nothing to the sport. He’s a guy that cheats. The only benefit he brings is that people really like watching him, that big guy.”

Lesnar who’s already back in USADA drug testing pool as of July 3 and eligible to return to Octagon by January of 2019. However, Dos Santos is certain no matter what, Lesnar wouldn’t stay off PEDs for longer.

“I’ve learned that those who use those types of performance drugs can’t stay without them because they don’t produce testosterone the way they did, they don’t produce HGH they way they should, and many other hormones,” dos Santos said. “To compete at high level, these guys can’t do without it. I don’t know what will be his strategy, but it’s almost certain that he won’t be clean.”

Dos Santos has a chance to improve his UFC rankings after putting down Blagoy Ivanov at the UFC Fight Night 133 this coming Saturday.

Do you think other top contenders in heavyweight division should get a title shot against Daniel Cormier? Do you agree with Junior Dos Santos’s statement on Lesnar?
