Donald Trump may have just thrown a new wrinkle into the UFC’s White House event.
While taking questions on Monday, a reporter suggested renaming the June 14 card from UFC Freedom 250 to UFC 1776.
“UFC typically numbers those fights consecutively, but should they label this one UFC 1776?”
Trump liked the idea right away.
“That’s a good idea. I’ll tell that to Dana White. I like that idea, actually.”
The timing is what makes it a real story. The UFC announced the show as UFC Freedom 250 on March 7 and has spent weeks building the event around that branding. A switch now would mean changing the identity of a card that has already been marketed as a one-off show tied to the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The event is set for Sunday, June 14 on the White House lawn, which already makes it different from a normal UFC pay-per-view. It is also expected to be a smaller card, with seven fights instead of the usual 12 or 13, and it falls on Trump’s 80th birthday.

UFC Freedom 250 already has too much built around it for an easy rename
The card itself is already stacked with enough buzz. Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje is booked for the undisputed lightweight title, and Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane is set for the interim heavyweight belt. On top of that, the event has already drawn scrutiny over regulatory questions tied to the White House setting.
That is why UFC 1776 is not just a funny soundbite. It would mean changing the name of one of the most unusual events the promotion has ever tried to pull off after weeks of promotion under a different banner.
Trump may love the idea, but Dana White and the UFC now have to decide whether it is worth touching a brand they already spent the last month building.
