Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, had a meeting with Micheál Martin, the leader of Ireland, on March 12, 2025. They sat in a special room called the Oval Office in the White House. While they talked, Trump started saying nice things about Conor McGregor, a famous fighter from Ireland. He told reporters about it, and now kids like you can hear the story too.

Trump and Martin met because St. Patrick’s Day, a fun Irish holiday, was coming up soon. They talked about important stuff, but then Trump got excited about fighting. He said,

“I do happen to like your fighter, he’s got the best tattoos I’ve ever seen. Conor’s great, right? Talking about Conor, but you have a lot of great Irish fighters actually. Great fighters.”

Trump loves Conor’s tattoos and thinks Ireland has lots of amazing fighters.

Why Irish Fighters Are Awesome

Trump kept going. He said,

“I don’t know what that is but Ireland’s always had a lot of really good fighters. You know why? Because they’re tough people. They’re smart people and they’re passionate people.”

He believes Irish people are strong, clever, and full of heart, and that’s why they’re so good at fighting. Conor McGregor is one of the best, and Trump likes him a lot.

Conor McGregor is a star in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC for short. He comes from Ireland and was the champion two times! He fights with punches and kicks, and he’s really fast. Conor hasn’t fought lately because he got hurt, but people still love him. Trump watched him fight before, like in 2021 when Conor lost to Dustin Poirier. Even so, Trump says he’s great.

Trump Likes Fighting

The President of the United States of America enjoys UFC a bunch. He’s gone to many fights and is friends with Dana White, the UFC boss. During the meeting with Martin, Trump said cool things about Conor and other Irish fighters. He didn’t pick a favorite, but he smiled big about Conor’s tattoos. Martin listened and smiled back, happy to hear about Ireland’s strong people.

Conor McGregor isn’t in the ring these days. His last fight was in 2021, and he broke his leg, which hurt a lot. He wanted to fight in 2024, but his toe got banged up, so he’s resting. Trump doesn’t mind. He still thinks Conor is neat and fun to talk about.

Last year, McGregor was found responsible for hurting Nikita Hand in a civil case and was ordered to pay her over $248,000. McGregor denied the accusations and later posted on Twitter (before removing it) that he planned to challenge the decision.

Hand, from Dublin, claimed McGregor attacked her at a hotel after a Christmas night out in December 2018. McGregor said their encounter was consensual in a hotel penthouse in southern Dublin.

The court was informed that Hand had injuries, including bruises on her hands and wrists, a scratched chest, and a sore neck.

In another case, a woman working on Wall Street accused McGregor of assault during an NBA Finals game between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets in June 2023. The lawsuit was filed in January, following an incident report made with the Miami Police two days after the event. However, the Florida State Attorney’s Office decided not to pursue charges in October 2023.
