Dominick Cruz reveals his unique nickname for his fellow UFC commentator Daniel Cormier.

UFC bantamweight Dominick Cruz is one of a handful of fighters who have made the jump over to UFC commentator. He takes pride in his job and has expressed on multiple occasions the amount of time he puts into his research for a fight. Even in his own fights, Cruz has said in the past that he watches film and does his due diligence. Cruz does not feel this is the case with some of his co-commentators, especially Daniel Cormier.

Cruz made a remark prior to his last bout about Cormier. “DC” was set to be on the mic that night during his bout with Pedro Munhoz and Cruz did not appreciate the type of analysis Cormier has been accustomed to. Cruz accused Cormier of not preparing for the job.

“I love DC, he’s my friend, but to me, from my experience, he doesn’t do the homework. He wants to get in and out, get the job done, make his money,” Cruz said at his UFC 269 presser.

The comments by Cruz didn’t sit well with Cormier but the two remain friends following the spat. Now Cruz is ready to get back in the cage again this Saturday night when he takes on Marlon Vera in the main event of UFC on ESPN 41. When asked during his pre-fight media day if he believes Cormier has changed his ways following Cruz’s remarks, he revealed a little nickname he has for the former heavyweight champion.

“Doubt it. Doubtful but again, I’ve learned to let go of control. DC is going to do DC, he’s good at, I call him the golden fluffer. He’s like, whatever you want to hear, he will say and he will make you love him. So that’s his gift, gift of gab.” Cruz said.

This upcoming bout with Vera will be in the Pechanga Arena in San Diego. Cruz stipulated in his choosing of this fight that he wanted it to be in an arena with fans. That could be because he does not want to hear the commentators which is likely to be the case if the event were held in the UFC APEX. He did not specify that reasoning but with his distain of hearing certain chatter about his fights, it could have been a factor. Cormier will be one of the cage side commentators, along with Brendan Fitzgerald, and Michael Bisping in San Diego.
