Din Thomas Warns Ronda Rousey ‘Shouldn’t Even Be Cleared’ for a Comeback at UFC White House 2026

MMA veteran Din Thomas warns that allowing Rousey to fight again would be “irresponsible” and a poor reflection on the sport.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey may face serious hurdles if she seeks to fight at UFC White House 2026. Regulatory authorities could hesitate to grant her a license due to her previously undisclosed concussion history, which she has said contributed to her retirement in 2017.

UFC commentator Din Thomas shared his perspective on the issue.

“She shouldn’t even be cleared,” Thomas told MMA Junkie. “How irresponsible would it be for a fight organization to hear all that then put her in a fight? To me, it almost sounds like you might’ve leaked that stuff in hopes they don’t put you back in a fight. You can’t play with those issues.”

Thomas emphasized the broader implications.

“It wouldn’t be good for the sport,” he added. “It would be a real bad look on the sport to have someone complaining about those type of issues, and then you, knowing that, you still put her in a fight. If that’s the case, we’ve got to keep her out of the Octagon.”

Career Setbacks and Their Impact

Rousey’s knockout losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes were key moments that contributed to her departure from MMA. Despite these setbacks, she recently returned to training and feels healthier than before.

Speaking to TMZ Sports on October 11, Rousey explained:

“I’m running late to the gym and I have to go right now but I just had a baby, you know what I mean? I’m just trying to get my body identity back and I’m just enjoying being in the gym again and I just feel a lot better and a lot healthier… Just getting back into training for the love of it and I feel like that’s something that got lost before.”

Uncertainty Around UFC White House Participation

Rousey was asked if she intends to fight at UFC White House 2026, but she did not provide a clear answer before leaving. Promoter Dana White has also remained noncommittal, stating, “I don’t know.”

Her current training indicates that she is rebuilding her striking and grappling abilities. However, experts like Din Thomas caution that previous head injuries could make a return unsafe.

Rousey’s focus is not solely on fighting. She has been promoting her graphic novel Expecting the Unexpected and seems to be prioritizing her family and personal health. Her renewed gym routines and public statements suggest a positive shift in her life.

Thomas reiterated, “It would be irresponsible and a bad look for the sport,” highlighting the importance of protecting fighters even if fans and promoters are eager for a comeback.

While Rousey’s return to training has excited fans, concerns about her concussion history may prevent her from participating in the UFC White House event in June 2026. Safety considerations appear to outweigh promotional opportunities.
