Din Thomas says he is done cornering fighters after Gillian Robertson’s title loss at UFC 330.
Thomas made the announcement on the UFC 330 post-fight show after Robertson dropped a unanimous decision to Mackenzie Dern in Philadelphia. Robertson lost the strawweight title fight by scores of 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47, a result already covered in MiddleEasy’s Dern vs. Robertson result. Thomas had worked the broadcast desk on the same night he cornered Robertson.
“For my announcement — I do have an announcement for you guys — I told myself I would continue to do this until I took Gillian as far as she could go; I think that might be as far as she can go, and I am officially retiring from cornering fighters tonight,” Thomas said on the UFC post-fight show. “I’m doing the Matt Serra: I’m no longer cornering fighters.”

Thomas Says The Week-To-Week Corner Work Is No Longer Fair
Thomas has been tied to Robertson’s rise for years, and Saturday’s loss came on the biggest stage of her career. Dern’s grappling and control kept Robertson from turning the fight into the kind of scramble-heavy night she needed, and Thomas sounded like a coach who had reached the end of one specific road.
“It’s just, I told myself that I would do this with her, I would see her journey out, and take her as far as I think she can go. And this might be as far as she can go,” Thomas said. “Listen, I’m the host of Deep Waters now [laughs]. …”
Thomas did not frame the move as a full break from training rooms. He made the distinction between helping fighters and taking on the full fight-week commitment that comes with being in the corner. That is the part he says he is leaving behind.
“I’ll still work with guys; it’s just a matter of going down that road with cornering. It’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of work, it’s a lot of stress. It’s a lot of work; you’ve got to be there all week,” Thomas said. “I’ve been slowly telling you. I don’t cut weight with them — and it’s not fair to them. They need somebody who is really going to put that type of work in with them.”
The announcement lands after a busy UFC 330 night that also produced a fresh Dern follow-up about her first title defense and Islam Makhachev’s main-event win over Ian Machado Garry. For Thomas, the main takeaway was more personal than tactical. He says he can still teach and still work with athletes, but the corner stool is no longer part of the job.
