Gegard Mousasi just admitted to laying and praying even though he stood up and punched Ilir Latifi for the better part of fourteen minutes and forty seconds. Stand and pray? I don’t know, more like: ‘pick apart your opponent until his face looks like it was shoved into a delicious gluten free cherry pie pray’. That’s not nearly as catchy though.
But can you blame Mousasi for jabbing Latifi like a couple of errant, Swedish workers playing with a piece of Ikea furniture? Why not use your massive range against a stocky wrestler? Despite the intriguing differences in their body types, you could tell Latifi was outclassed by the Dream Catcher in just about every facet of the game. Sadly, the Swedish Rocky story would not come to be, but Latifi can take solace in the fact that he has some gigantic Swedish meatballs, and maybe we can see him against a Ryan Jimmo, Brandon Vera or someone soon.
As for Mousasi, he looked like he usually does, except he admitted to having a cold last week in his post fight speech, so maybe that’s what’s affecting his normally boisterous personality. Gegard seemed to be favoring his right hand through the fight, maybe he injured it, but we’re hoping he didn’t because he could probably fight Gustaffson next week if he had to.
