Derrick Lewis Has Three Big Names In Mind For Next Fight After UFC-Austin Win

Last night in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 126 that took place at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, Derrick Lewis weathered a storm to earn a third-round knockout win over Marcin Tybura.

Following the fight, Lewis spoke with media journalists who were in attendance at the event. Though he’s likely still a win or two away from a heavyweight title shot, Lewis has three names in mind for his next fight, any of whom could well propel him the rest of the way to the top.

Derrick Lewis is in the win column after a high-profile setback against Mark Hunt and is 7-1 in his past eight outings.

Lewis is not choosy who his next opponent will be – as soon as he heals up from his latest comeback.

“I think my hand is broken right now, but hopefully I can get Francis, Curtis Blaydes, (Fabricio) Werdum, Cain (Velasquez) – really anybody,” Lewis said to MMA Junkie. “Whoever signs the contract first, that’s who I’m willing to fight.”

“I’m going to try and rest up a little bit so I can be strong in the fourth round with (my wife),” he said. “I’m going to knock it out of the box. I heard they’re giving people $500,000 just to fight for the title,” he said. “So your boy had to step his game up.”

Francis Ngannou who’s hype derailed by heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic at UFC 220 on Jan 20th. Curtis Blaydes recently, scores an impressive decision win over the legend Mark Hunt. Meanwhile, former champion Fabricio Werdum is currently linked to a matchup with Alexander Volkov on March 7 in London, England.

Lewis had Tybura almost hurt in the opening round but chose to conserve his stamina rather than go for the finish.

“I didn’t want to gas myself out like you-know-who,” Lewis said. “In the third round, I wasn’t tired at all. It was shocking. In the third round, my ass is gas. But this fight right here, I really wasn’t tired. I still felt like I could throw heat.

“Before the fight even started, (my coaches) already knew what time I’m going to really turn it on.”

Who do you think, Derrick Lewis should fight next to the above three men?
