Beef Alert! Derrick Lewis Claims Cormier Accepted To Fight Him Cause He Has A Fear Of Jones!
UFC 230 PPV (pay-per-view) event got a headline match in the last moment. It is the showdown between Derrick Lewis and Daniel Cormier. Derrick Lewis has his own theory why “DC” accepted to fight him on a short notice.
Lewis looked back at two fights between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier. As well as you remember, “Bones” won “DC” via unanimous decision at the main event of UFC 182, on January 3, 2015. But we saw a total domination from Jon Jones at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017. He demolished Cormier via head kick KO. But his victory was later overturned to no contest after he was tested positive on Turinabol.
“The Black Beast” believes Cormier gave him a chance because he is afraid of “Bones”. Derrick Lewis also added that Daniel Cormier thinks he is an easy rival. (via MMAMania.com)
“I think he’s scared to fight Jones, the guy beat him twice,” Lewis told MMA Junkie. “The reason I think he took the fight with me is because Jon Jones was already fighting. They’re already saying he’s basically scared to fight Jones right now, anyway. He feels like it would be perfect to fight a guy like me that don’t have as much skills on short notice before the Jones fight and he thinks it’s going to be an easy fight for him.”
Daniel Cormier defeated Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 on January 20, 2018, via second-round TKO. Then he surprisingly put Stipe Miocic to sleep via first-round clinch KO at the main event of UFC 226 on July 6, 2018, to win UFC Heavyweight title.
On the other side, Derrick Lewis had a match to forget at UFC 226 versus Francis Ngannou. Despite he won via unanimous decision, it was one of the worst performances in the history of UFC. “The Black Beast” then miraculously defeated Alexander Volkov at UFC 229 on October 6, 2018, via third-round KO!
Jon Jones is slated to fight Alexander Gustafsson at the main event of UFC 232 on December 29th, 2018, for the Interim UFC Light Heavyweight title. Cormier will be stripped of the title as soon as “Viking” and “Bones” cross their gloves.
