A Heavyweight Bout Between Derrick Lewis And Former WSOF Champion Blagoy Ivanov Is In Works For UFC 244

UFC is working on to book a heavyweight affair between former title contender Derrick Lewis and Blagoy Ivanov for upcoming UFC 244 Pay-Per-View MMA event at Madison Square Garden in New York City, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

“Breaking: UFC is working on a bout between Derrick Lewis and Blagoy Ivanov for UFC 244 at MSG. Almost one year to the date of Lewis’ title shot against DC in the same building, and his first appearance since knee surgery earlier this year.”

That bout will be “Black Beast” first appearance after his knee surgery. Lewis last fought five months back where he suffered a technical knockout defeat to Junior dos Santos. Before that he lost a title fight to Daniel Cormier via rare naked choke at Madison Square Garden. Currently, he’s riding on a two-fight losing streak.

Meanwhile, a former Bellator MMA heavyweight champion Ivanov is riding on a two-fight winning streak and recently coming off a unanimous decision win over Tai Tuivasa at UFC 228. Before that he outscored Ben Rothwell via decision in the third round the same fight card when Lewis fought and lost to Santos.

A win for Ivanov will give him hope to enter into a title race while Lewis will look to snap his losing streak.

UFC still has to announce the main headliner bout for this fight card.
