Deontay Wilder is interested in making a two-fight deal with Francis Ngannou.
Over the years, Ngannou has expressed his interest in boxing, and there have been hints from Wilder about a potential boxing match between them. With Ngannou’s recent signing with PFL, the possibility of him stepping into the boxing ring seems more likely, as the promotion allows him the opportunity to pursue both sports.
After his departure from the UFC, former heavyweight champion Ngannou signed a contract with the MMA organization PFL. Fans can anticipate seeing him step into the Smart Cage in 2024, but before that, he will compete in the boxing ring.
With that, Ngannou has been trying to secure a boxing match against a top heavyweight. Wilder, meanwhile, says he is open to signing a two-fight deal with one fight against Ngannou being in boxing and the other being in MMA. It also isn’t the first time Wilder has hinted at MMA as he says he is interested in having an MMA fight.
‘People will be very Impressed’
“That is a good question, I thought about this many times. Even with Ngannou, we were talking about getting together. You always see the MMA guys crossing over, but you never see the boxers crossing over, so I said I’m willing to make it more interesting for the fans and just the whole combat family as in a whole,” Wilder said during the PFL broadcast. “I said why don’t you come to my backyard, and after we handle business, I can come to yours and crossover and I really meant it. So things are still up in the air, but I have seen myself on this side of the field, you know. People will be very impressed on what I can do in my abilities to be here.”
As of right now, no deal has been reached but Deontay Wilder is hoping it can be done soon. He knows a matchup against Francis Ngannou would be a massive fight for both men and a big payday.
However, Wilder is also reportedly in talks to box Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia in December so whether or not the timelines will work is uncertain. But, at the very least Wilder is interested in boxing Ngannou and potentially fighting him in MMA as well.
