Denis Goltsov turned a short heavyweight opener into the nastiest clip on the PFL Charlotte prelims.
Goltsov stopped Hasan Mezhiev by head kick and punches at 0:52 of Round 1 on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina. The heavyweight bout streamed during the early card on the ESPN app before the main card moved to ESPN.
The finish pushed Goltsov to 37-9 and handed Mezhiev his first professional loss, dropping him to 14-1.

Round 1
Mezhiev waved Goltsov forward after an early exchange, and the invitation lasted only a few seconds. Goltsov stepped in, found the head kick as Mezhiev lowered his guard line, then followed him to the canvas with punches until referee Jacob Montalvo had seen enough.
The stoppage was officially listed as a TKO by head kick and punches. There was no second round, no scorecard suspense, and no long feeling-out period. Goltsov read the pocket once, punished the opening, and left with the quickest heavyweight result of the card.
Why It Mattered
Goltsov is not just another heavyweight veteran getting a showcase slot. He won the 2024 PFL heavyweight championship by submitting Oleg Popov in the first round, then lost to Corey Anderson in July 2025. This win gave him a violent reset and kept him near the top of PFL’s heavyweight picture.
Mezhiev entered unbeaten and had been tied to the Contender Series path before this PFL booking. Instead of using Goltsov as a name win, he ran into a former PFL champion with 19 knockout or TKO wins and a long history of ending heavyweight fights early.
The finish also gave PFL Charlotte a sharper prelim highlight before the main-card results settled in. On the same night, Josh Fremd stopped Jhony Gregory in Round 2 and Bryan Battle edged Dalton Rosta by split decision in the hometown main event.
Goltsov’s next step matters because PFL still has heavyweight movement ahead of PFL Tampa later this month. One clean kick in Charlotte turned his rebound fight back into a rankings problem for the rest of the division.
