Video: Demian Maia Taps Condit With a Choke in Less Than 3 Minutes

Everyone came into this match confused and torn. Carlos Condit never got his immediate rematch in his close contest with Robbie Lawler, and Demian Maia has backpacked all the best in the division and has been deserving a title shot for a long time. Well, after this it looks like he may finally get it.

Maia got Condit down in less than a minute (38 seconds actually) and started to work his grind. Despite the screams from thousands in attendance and millions at home, Condit was already sucked into the BJJ black hole. By two and a half minutes? Maia had the back and grabbed a choke. There’s not much left to say. Condit had to tap out.

The “submission magician” Maia has only absorbed 12 strikes in his last four fights using this same strategy.

Maia was emotional in the post-fight, saying he respected Condit so much and viewed him as the real champion. After Brian Stann seemed to announce officially that Stephen Thompson would fight Tyron Woodley for the Welterweight title, Maia stated that he would wait on the winner. …He will finally get his title fight. …Maybe.
