Demian Maia Looking For Potential Last Fight With Sanchez In November

Demian Maia was victorious in his UFC Minneapolis fight against Anthony Rocco Martin, over the weekend. With that in mind, he is looking ahead at what could be his final fight.

With his win over the weekend, the 41 year old Maia now has 21 UFC victories; second-most of all time. Maia, who has been in the UFC since 2007, is now approaching the end of his career.

Following his UFC Minneapolis victory, Maia has only one fight let on his UFC contract. The BJJ expert spoke in the post-fight show abot what he wants that final fight to be, and if it would in fact be his final fight. (via MMAJunkie)

“Maybe (his next fight) will be the last one – I hope to do that in Sao Paulo in November. Diego Sanchez is asking to fight, so it would be a good fight, two veterans.”

Additionally, Sanchez is also a long-time vet of the UFC, who is likely nearing the end of his career also.

“After that, maybe I do a couple more. But for sure, this year or next year, I’ll stop and retire.”

Although Maia is looking to retire, he explains that it is not due to his body feeling old.

“I feel pretty well, and I feel that in training. That’s why I keep going, because I love what I do. If I start to feel my body, then I will stop. Because I feel so well, I keep going. But I have other projects that I want to do, and that’s the only thing that makes me think about stopping. It’s more about the other things I want to do.”

Would a fight between Demian Maia and Diego Sanchez be the final fight for both competitors?
