Flyweight superstar Demetrious Johnson stepped back into the ONE Circle for another shot at Adriano Moraes‘ ONE flyweight world championship at ONE on Prime Video 1.
ONE on Prime Video 1: Adriano Moraes vs. Demetrious Johnson
Round 1
Adriano Moraes hustled out for the opening round, and immediately landed a shot on Johnson. Looking much bigger than Johnson, Moraes opened things up pushing the pace. Johnson doing a little taunting early on, putting his hands behind his back and temping the world champion. Moments later, Moraes caught a leg kick from DJ and used it to take down ‘Mighty Mouse’ at the halfway point of the round. Johnson showed massive improvement in his grappling game, keeping an active guard and preventing Moraes from doing any damage on the ground.
Round 2
Adriano Moraes came out for the second with a noticeable gash above his right eye. DJ throws a leg kick and immediately gets a straight right back from ‘Mikinho.’ The champ clips ‘Mighty Mouse’ with a head kick that wobbles him. In desperation, Johnson shoots for a takedown, but ends up belly down and starts to eat knees from Moraes, reminiscent of their first meeting in April 2021. Johnson is able to make his way to his feet. Moraes then takes Johnson down to the canvas once again, driving the smaller fighter to the canvas with serious force. Moraes would keep Demetrious Johnson there for the remainder of the round.
Round 3
In the third, Johnson began bringing the pressure to Moraes, landing a nice body kick in the opening moments. The length of ‘Mikinho’ continued to cause some trouble for Johnson, but he was clearly the fresher of the two fighters at the halfway point of the round. Staring to find his rhythm, ‘Mighty Mouse’ popped Moraes with a solid right jab as the tide began to turn in the favor of Demetrious Johnson
Round 4
Into the first of the championship rounds, ‘Mikinho’ focused on clinch work, pressing Johnson against the cage to stop his momentum. Working his way out of the clinch, DJ chased down Moraes to the other side of the ONE Circle. In pursuit, DJ would eat a flying knee from Moraes that connects with his chest, momentarily sitting him down. Quickly back to his feet and undeterred, DJ continued his pursuit landing a massive right that rocked Moraes. Johnson quickly moved in throwing a devastating flying knee straight to the face of Moraes, knocking the defending champion out and forcing a stop to the action at 3:50 into round number four.
