  • Deiveson Figueiredo knows he will be able to cut to 125 pounds to defend his title.
  •  Figueiredo also wants to try his hand at bantamweight in the future.

Deiveson Figueiredo saw an interim flyweight champion get crowned this past weekend at UFC 277. Former champion Brandon Moreno is the newest title holder in town and with that interim title comes a shot at the champ, Figueiredo. These two have fought three times before and were supposed to fight once again earlier this year. However, an injury has kept the champ sidelined for months now. Figueiredo is on the mend and could defend his title by early next year, but is that still the plan?

Deiveson Figueiredo promises to defend the belt despite the previous word of the contrary.

When the UFC first decided to create an interim title it angered Figueiredo. He stated that perhaps he would not be returning to the 125-pound division after all and may decide to seek success in a different division. Now that Moreno is carrying a belt Figueiredo is walking back such talks. He knows feels he will 100 percent be ready to fight at flyweight despite seeming a bit heavier than usual.

Listen, my whole career I make it 125 pounds. It’s definitely hard work to get there,” he said to The MMA Hour. “Even from the weight you see me at now. I will be able to get it, it’s gonna be an incredible job. And when I get down there believe me, I’ve done it before I’ll do it again. I’ll be ready.”

Deiveson Figueiredo is still open to fighting at bantamweight in the future.

While he is the champion at flyweight he intended to fight in that class, but that doesn’t rule out his interest in bantamweight. Figueiredo is one of the bigger fighters at flyweight and has had some difficulties making weight in the past. He missed the flyweight championship limit back in 2020 for his title fight against Joseph Benavidez.

“I am definitely going back and defending my title. I would love to experiment at 135 pounds and even a shot at the title,” he said.

Figueiredo is hoping that his next title defense can happen in his home country of Brazil and is targeting January of next year for the date.
