The UFC flyweight champion is not happy with the UFC at the moment and is thinking about leaving the division.

When the UFC announced that Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara France are going to fight for the interim flyweight champion, it made sense because champion Deiveson Figueiredo is out of the picture with a hand injury. Well, it didn’t make sense for Figueiredo; in fact, it really upset him to the point where he is thinking about leaving the division.

Move to bantamweight?

“Well, I confesss to you I’m upset because I didn’t expect this from the UFC.  It’s only been a few months since my last fight, and they are already putting an interim belt? I really can’t believe it,” Figueiredo told Brazilian outlet AG Fight. “I can prove that I didn’t accept the fight because of my injury…They should have waited longer. I’m a guy who has always put on great shows for the event. And I feel kind of underapprecaited by that for all i’ve done for them. I feel this. But I will say this,  I’ll even use a phrase from Charles ‘Do Bronx’ [Oliveira] words: ‘The champion is called Deiveson Figueiredo.’ This plastic belt is meaningless they’ll put on will just be another one.”

“Without a doubt, I am very disappointed. “I confess that I’m even I seriously thinking about leaving the division, because I was the one who saved this divison and Henry Cejudo. And after this one one from the UFC, bro. Honestly, I’m about to make some decsions.  I hope not, but if I make the decsion, I’ll leave the division move to 135 lbs.”

Figueiredo has fought at flyweight 13 times in the UFC. He won the flyweight title in 2020 when he submitted Joseph Benavidez on Fight Island. He defended the belt against Alex Perez before fighting to a draw against Moreno. He would lose the title in the rematch with Moreno at UFC 263 but would reclaim the title earlier this year at UFC 270.

A move to bantamweight would be interesting for Figueiredo, but there is still work to be done in his division that he is the current king of.
