Darren Till Explains Why Colby Covington Isn’t Getting A Shot At Tyron Woodley
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is set to defend his strap against undefeated contender Darren Till on September 8 in the main event of UFC 228. Colby Covington was the man in line to face Woodley next after winning an interim title last month via decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos; however Covington couldn’t fight at the proposed date due to nasal surgery, UFC wasn’t willing to wait for him and went on to book Till instead.
Covington will strip off his interim title as soon Till and Woodley begins a fight. UFC’s decision for booking Till for title fight met with lots of criticism.

“I believe Colby has missed his opportunity,” Till said. “It is a sad situation. It’s unfortunate for Colby. He is the rightful owner of the interim belt. He beat [Rafael] dos Anjos, but sometimes you can’t have your cake and eat it.
“He wanted everything on his terms,” Till added. “The UFC didn’t want that, so he’ll have to sit out now.”
“You just can’t talk all that much shite about how you’re going to beat this champion, you beat him in sparring and whatever, and then the champ responds, Woodley responds, and the fight just sort of flutters off into the air. It doesn’t seem to work like that. As soon as Colby beat dos Anjos, Woodley called Colby out. That was there, that was made, Woodley was game, and it just doesn’t happen. So there’s the second guy, me, Darren Till. I’m ready, so that’s all I think about. I don’t give a fuck about any of that shit. I just want to go in there on the eighth of September and prove why I’m the best fighter alive right now.”

Till 25, has also come under heavy criticism for missing weight, for his fight against Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night 130 back in May. Due to that ‘The Gorilla’ has to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to ‘Wonderboy’ whom he beat via controversial decision. After that Till went on to say to matchmakers to offer the next title shot to Thompson, not him.
However, Till receives a call from the head boss which he accepted without any doubt and has a chance to become the first fighter to beat Woodley since Rory MacDonald defeated him at UFC 174.
Darren Till is confident heading into his bout with Tyron Woodley.
“Right now, there’s not a man in that [welterweight] division who can fucking beat me,” he said. “There’s just not a man. And it’s certainly not Woodley.”
Who do you think will emerge victorious between Till and Woodley when they square off at UFC 228?
