Hilarious Story

During an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Darren Till shared the story behind that one video of Khamzat Chimaev calling him “fat boy.”

“The first day when I was training here, like when we went through that and then we were doing this tough strength and conditioning and I wore the wrong top, I had a stretch top and he was like, ‘Come on, fat boy,’ I was like, ‘Ah, this is gonna be a long few months,’ [laughs].”

Till went on to say that he couldn’t believe the reaction he has received over the pairing with Chimaev.

“He’s a good guy, he’s a good guy. He trains hard, and listen he genuinely wants to help me as well. He sees I’m a little bit out of shape and he’s giving me that little kick up the ass. Like, ‘Come on brother, let’s go.’ I couldn’t believe the first day when I got here. The next day when I woke up, every single media, even people who aren’t even involved in the sport were like, ‘Khamzat-Till, Khamzat-Till.’ It was so humbling to be around it.”

Till has been looking to turn things around after going 1-4 in his last five outings. His most recent bout took place back in Sept. 2021. He was submitted by Derek Brunson. Many had questioned Till’s motivation and effort due to the lackluster performance.
