Daniel Cormier Trolls Yoel Romero’s Title Shot Callout

It Looks Like Daniel Cormier Has An Excuse Not To Face Yoel Romero

There were many contradictory statements from Daniel Cormier after he defeated Stipe Miocic via first-round clinch right hook. While Alexander Gustafsson hopes Cormier will vacate UFC Light Heavyweight title, DC issued a trolling response related to Yoel Romero’s UFC Light Heavyweight title shot.

Daniel Cormier (21-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) has been skyrocketed high in a very short period of time. The dual champion can choose his opponents now, and he has decided to joke with Yoel Romero. In the first place, DC praised Yoel’s wrestling performance.

But unexpectedly, Cormier mentioned that moving up in a division is not the best way to get a title shot, especially if you have an unsuccessful weight cut history. Here is what DC said when he was interviewed at “UFC Tonight” by Kenny Florian and Michael Bisping (via MMAJunkie.com):

“Here’s the deal: I never wrestled Yoel Romero, but in wrestling he probably would have served me up,” Cormier said. “He’s one of the great wrestlers of all-time. But, you don’t fail a class and then get moved up a grade to the next one.”

Cormier then mentioned Chael Sonnen, who was tragically defeated to Anderson Silva in a Middleweight title shot after submission in the fifth round, but immediately got a chance for the Light Heavyweight title shot versus Jon Jones. DC says this might only be the coincidence and claims Chael Sonnen is just an exception.

“Chael Sonnen did that one time, but I don’t know what was going on,” Cormier said. “Chael has a way of doing that. Let’s just say that.”

At the moment, Cormier claims he still plans to defend Light Heavyweight title, but it is still unknown who might be his next opponent, he doesn’t want to get stripped like Mcgregor.

“I don’t want them to take one of these belts,” Cormier said. “So I will defend it. I will defend the light heavyweight title if the right fight presents itself.”

Cormier already teased a title fight with Shogun Rua at light heavyweight, if that doesn’t fit, Cormier may wait for Brock Lesnar’s return who’s currently in USADA testing pool.
