Daniel Cormier Gives Update Following UFC 241 Title Loss

Daniel Cormier lost his UFC Heavyweight title in a rematch to Stipe Miocic on Saturday night. Now, he has opened up on his mindset, following this defeat.

Cormier was being regarded as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, heading into his fight at UFC 241. Additionally, he demonstrated that early, by controlling Miocic in the first. He also was showing no respect for Miocic’s power in the second.

However, things changed towards the end of the third, and momentum picked up for Miocic. Subsequently, in the fourth round Miocic landed hard body shots to hurt Cormier, before finishing him off with some head strikes. This resulted in Stipe regaining his heavyweight title.

Following the fight, there were plenty of questions on Cormier’s future, which he did not want to answer at the time. However, Monday he took to Instagram to issue a statement, and update fans on where his head is.

Check out his statement:

“It’s been a couple of days and I can’t stress the disappointment, I am so sorry to all I have let down. To my wife and kids I am so sorry you guys had to experience that, I never wanted y’all to see that and the hurt you guys showed breaks my heart everytime I think about it. My coaches I am sorry, i appreciate the work and time you’ve spent with me. My fans, thank you guys for all the love and support you have guided me to all these amazing accomplishments.

Stipe Miocic and his team, congratulations on a tremendous victory, you showed so much heart and grit, you are the definition of Cleveland tough. @danawhite And all at the @ufc thank you all for everything you have done for me and my family. This has been the most amazing journey, I will decide what I am gonna do now, and as soon as I decide you will all know right away. I love you all. DC”

If Cormier does choose to retire, he does have plenty of big things to keep him occupied. UFC Champion or not, Cormier is one of the greatest fighters to step in the cage. On top of that, he is genuinely a good guy.

Does Daniel Cormier retire following this loss? Or does he still have one more fight left?
