- Daniel Cormier got a confirmation from Justin Gaethje about still fighting at UFC 313 even with Dan Hooker out
- DC proposed a showdown between “The Highlight” and Renato Moicano
Daniel Cormier talked about how Justin Gaethje confirmed that he is moving on from Dan Hooker and will still fight at UFC 313 against a different opponent.
DC with an update on Gaethje
Dan Hooker was forced to pull out of his fight with Gaethje at UFC 313 due to a hand injury. Despite that, DC revealed that “The Highlight” is not intending to withdraw as well. In fact, Gaethje confirmed to Cormier via phone call that he is planning to still fight at UFC 313 next weekend.
“Justin Gaethje is still fighting. I called him this morning, and my immediate question was, ‘Do you have any plans to not fight this weekend?’ He goes, ‘Are you f**king crazy?’ That’s Justin Gaethje. He goes, ‘Are you crazy? Of course, I’m fighting.’ I say, ‘What’s up, JG? What are you doing?’ He goes, ‘I’m sleeping. It’s 7:30 in the morning here.’”
Daniel Cormier says Justin Gaethje told him he still plans on fighting at #UFC313:
“Are you crazy? Of course I’m fighting… I don’t care I’ll fight any of those guys.” 👀

DC wants to see Gaethje vs. Moicano
Cormier also took the opportunity to ask Gaethje who he wants to take on now that “The Hangman” is out. Gaethje has no definite name yet but DC suggested that he face fellow contender Renato Moicano.
“So, I asked JG, ‘Who do you want?’ He goes, ‘I don’t care who I have to fight. I’ll fight any of those guys.’ But I said for me, ‘I want you versus Renato Moicano,’” DC further divulged. “I think that that’s a fun fight. I think that that fight looks more to people like the fight against Dan Hooker, what we were all expecting. I get it, Moicano just lost to Islam Makhachev in the way that he did, but JG is coming off a loss, too. He got beat by Max Holloway in brutal fashion.”
“We learned that Moicano couldn’t compete with Makhachev. There’s no knocking him for that. Why not match these two up?,” he pointed out. “We know that ‘Money’ Moicano is always there to fight. We know that he’s willing to stand and trade with the best of them. We know that he possesses submission ability. We know Moicano can do anything in the octagon. We know that he’s going to bring the show, and we know Moicano is willing.”
There’s no official announcement yet but Cormier made a good point about matching Gaethje against Moicano. Both fighters are coming off a big loss and badly need to get back to the win column.
