Daniel Cormier responded to Jon Jones after the retired UFC fighter reacted to comments made during the UFC 318 weigh-in show. Cormier, a UFC commentator, said Jones wrongly thought a vague remark about fighting an enemy at home was about him. Jones claimed on social media he caused Cormier lasting pain. Cormier said he never named Jones and called his reaction silly.
Cormier Explains His Side
At the UFC 318 weigh-in show, a host asked Cormier where he’d fight his enemy and who it was. Cormier said he’d choose his house for an advantage but didn’t name anyone. Jones, in deleted social media posts, said he beat Cormier twice and still hurts him emotionally. Cormier, on his YouTube channel, said:
“Only an insecure person would go, immediately, that ‘he’s talking about me.’ No, maybe I wasn’t. But maybe I was. You don’t know. But again, I didn’t say a name on purpose.”
Cormier said he’s over their past fights, which hurt in 2017 but not now.
He added, “It sucked to lose, and it hurt a lot more in 2017. It doesn’t hurt today. That’s eight years past. I’m not stuck on that. Also, you can’t say that you’re the most painful thing that’s happened in a person’s life when they’ve lost a child. That’s the craziest thing in the world, … their father got murdered. He knows that.”
Cormier called Jones’ claim wild, noting his daughter’s death and father’s murder were far worse.

Cormier said his job is to talk about big names like Jones, especially because of their history.
He said, “I do a job where I talk about the biggest things in the sport. So I can’t omit that in talking about Jon Jones because of our history. No, actually, because of our history, people want my take on what’s happening with Jon Jones more than anybody.” He won’t let Jones bother him since they won’t fight again, adding, “I can’t let a person in my head that at this point in my life there’s nothing we can do about it. We ain’t fighting no more.”
Cormier called Jones’ actions foolish, saying:
“I’m only talking about what is the news now, and also how stupid he is. He just really is not the smartest person, and once again it’s proven.” He asked when their feud will stop, saying, “When does this end? Like, can this end, guys? Like, when does this end?”

He won the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix in 2012 against Josh Barnett. Cormier joined the UFC in 2013, going 15-3 with 1 no-contest.
