Daniel Cormier Talks A Potential Bout With Ryan Bader
Daniel Cormier and Ryan Bader have a lot in common. Although in different organizations, they are both simultaneous Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champions.
Bader may be in Bellator now, but he was once knocking on the door of a UFC title shot. While Cormier was reigning as Light Heavyweight Champion, the two had a rivalry that exploded in a post-fight interview.
Since Bader has had such success in Bellator, the conversation surrounding him and Cormier reignited. Although he recently relinquished his Light Heavyweight title, Cormier spoke recently on the MMA Hour about a potential bout between the two. He offered a lot of respect for what Bader has accomplished, defeating legends such as Fedor Emeilanenko. However, the respect ended there.
“it’s been good to watch him do what he’s done. But he wouldn’t be able to fight me. I like the guy, but it’s just different. It’s just a little bit of a different approach. Look, at the end of the day I’m just nasty ol’ boy.”
Cormier explained how his grinding style would be too much for Bader.
“There’s always pain, and I learned that when Josh Barnett put the pain on me when we fought in Strikeforce. It’s just a different type of mentality that most guys can’t match. You’ve got to be a dog if you’re going to beat Daniel Cormier — and I don’t know if he has that dog in him.”
Ryan Bader is coming off of the aforementioned Fedor bout, winning the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix. Daniel Cormier is expected to face Stipe Miocic in a rematch, at UFC 241. Perhaps one day these two champions will face off against each other.
