Daniel Cormier Reacts To Alexander Gustafsson For His Callout Of Luke Rockhold

Alexander Gustafsson wasn’t too happy when he heard about that Daniel Cormier-Stipe Miocic UFC super-fight last month.

Couple days back, former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson called out Luke Rockhold for a fight following his knockout loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 221.
Gustafsson blamed Cormier of holding up the light heavyweight division while he participates in a super fight against heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in July so the former two-time title contender took aim at former middleweight champion.

Cormier and Gustafsson met at UFC 192 where Gustafsson suffered a split-decision defeat to Cormier back in 2015 – in a bout that earned “Fight of the Night” honors – before rebounding with a decision win over Jan Błachowicz and a knockout win over Glover Teixeira.

Since the two fought, they haven’t lost. Daniel Cormier just recently defended his title against Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 and won the bout via TKO punches in the second-round.

Cormier didn’t take long to respond, and he definitely turned up the heat on Gustafsson.

Nice timing Alexander(kick him while he’s down huh). I got a better idea tho he doesn’t fight you next. He fights Robert Whitaker, I mean sometimes that happens right. You lose your way into a title shot! #thegustafsonway

Daniel Cormier took the fight with Stipe Miocic not only as a chance to become a two-division UFC champion but also in part because Gustafsson was still recovering from shoulder surgery and wasn’t ready to fight just yet.

Fans will always have comments to throw in and Cormier decided to give some replies to his initial tweet:

Fan: DC you barley beat Alex.. i love you but don’t talk like you beat the living hell out of him.. i recall he did knock you down.. Luke is all talk and he knocked out by a 41 year old.. up next is either Yoel or Kelvin.

DC: It was tough because I fought him that way. I could have made the whole fight look like round 1. Think about this tho. He lost a 5 round stand up fight to me. By the end of the fight he was the one wrestling lol

Prior to UFC 221, Luke Rockhold actually decides to make the move on up to light heavyweight is still to be determined, but he was adamant that it will happen soon. So fight with Alexander Gustafsson is something that would certainly make sense as DC is booked with Stipe Miocic.

Are you down for Gustafsson vs Rockhold?
