Daniel Cormier On Khabib Paying His Teammates Fines: ‘The Most Honorable Thing I’ve Ever Seen’

Daniel Cormier On Khabib Paying His Teammates Fines: ‘The Most Honorable Thing I’ve Ever Seen’

Daniel Cormier So Touched By Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Act Of Paying The Fines Of His Teammates And Brothers

It’s well known that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and current heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier are best friends and trains out of the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) alongside some of the very best fighters alive like Luke Rockhold and Cain Velasquez.

Ahead of Khabib’s UFC 229 title fight against Conor Mcgregor, Daniel Cormier was super confident that his friend and teammate ‘Eagle’ will prove to the world that he is the most dominant fighter in history and Russian did prove it after submitting Mcgregor in the fourth round to retain the title. But Khabib’s win overshadowed by a post-fight brawl that ensued chaos inside and outside the Octagon.

Daniel Cormier also backed his friend’s decision when ‘Eagle‘ threatened to quit the company.

In result, Khabib Nurmagomedov received nine-months of suspension with $500K fine for instigating a UFC 229 brawl from Nevada Athletic Commission. Not only that Khabib’s teammates Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov also received fine of $25,000 each so that mean they won’t be eligible to return to Octagon until October 2019.

Vaunted grappler has an opportunity to reduced that suspension to six if he eagerly participates in anti-bullying PSA; however, he turned down that offer from NSAC. Moreover, Khabib’s manager said he plans to return by October or November until his teammate’s suspension is up.

Daniel Cormier recently appeared on The MMA Hour, where he confirmed that ‘Eagle’ do plan to benched until October as his teammates can’t return to action till then and moreover he’s also paying their fines as well. ‘DC’ was so touched by Khabib’s gesture of taking care of his training partners as a family. “I think that Khabib is doing the most honorable thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Cormier said. “Not many guys will pay the fine, the 500 grand, also pay the fines of your teammates and brothers. He’s paying their money too. Whatever they fine [Abubakar and Tukhugov], he’s gonna pay it too. Those are his brothers. They were acting to help him, I guess. They’re suspended longer, he will sit with them. That’s one thing about those guys and their lifestyle and their community is that they are family at the highest level and what he’s doing is so honorable. Not many people would do that. He’s doing it with the idea that even if they take his title, it does not mean more to him than standing next to his brothers. It doesn’t get any better than that. I appreciate it. I do think the fine was steep. Whatever.

“He also said that he’s not gonna fight there anymore. He’s very firm in his approach, he’s very firm in what he wants to convey to the world. I’m very proud of him. I’m proud of the man that Khabib has become from the moment he walked into AKA to who he is today, I’m very proud of him.”

What do you think of this heart-melting gesture from Khabib Nurmagomedov?
