Daniel Cormier Wants Third Fight With Jon Jones Before Retirement

40-year-old Daniel Cormier Is Hoping For A Trilogy Fight With Jon Jones.

The current UFC Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has expressed his desire to fight the current UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, again, and for the third time, sometime before he retires from the sport.

Cormier lost in their first fight via decision, but the second fight was ruled a no contest and a third would allow Cormier another shot at redemption.

Daniel Cormier was expected to fight Brock Lesnar, but since Lesnar just announced his retirement from the sport; that’s not happening. So, now Cormier will end up fighting Stipe Miocic again after defeating him at UFC 226 last year. They’ll run it at UFC 241 in August 2019.

Speaking with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Cormier said he’d only stick around after Miocic fight if it was a trilogy match with Jon Jones. But… it has to be in the light heavyweight division just like it was in their first fight where Cormier lost.

“It’s all I want. If I do stick around, that would be the fight that I would do it for. It would be at 205 pounds because I need to go and get that back from him.”

Now, Jon “Bones” Jones is arguably the greatest fighter to ever step in the octagon and this would be an epic matchup once again between the two elites.

Jones had a rough few years not fighting in the UFC but he’s back and better than ever, KO’ing Alexander Gustafsson in their rematch late last year, and he once again became the LHW champ. Then he went on to thumped Anthony Smith.

Jones will face Thiago Santos at UFC 239 on July 6th, and then after Cormier’s fight, we could possibly see the last of three to end an incredible trilogy. But, both fighters would have to win their upcoming fights to really make the possibility worthwhile.

So, the question is… will we see a Daniel Cormier VS Jon Jones III?
