Recently Jon Jones made some headlines for confessing to the long standing rumor that he hid under a cage to avoid a drug test. Now his old rival, Daniel Cormier gives his thoughts on this situation, and he pulls no punches.

Right around the time Jones and Cormier fought for the first time, also around the time Jon failed a drug test for cocaine, reports emerged that Jon had hidden under a cage at his gym to avoid a drug test. The story goes that Jon stayed under this cage for upwards of 8 hours to avoid the Nevada State Athletic Commission and their drug test. For a while this was nothing more than rumor, but during a recent exchange on social media, Jones admitted to Israel Adesanya that this did really happen. Although he explained that it was not because of performance enhancing drugs, but instead because he smoked a blunt and did not want to test positive for marijuana.

Daniel Cormier Sounds Off On Jon Jones

It seems that Daniel Cormier is not particularly convinced that Jon Jones hid under a cage because of marijuana. Speaking on the most recent episode of the DC and Helwani show, he went after Jon for this admission. Furthermore he explained that he thinks Jon was doing something else that he did not want to get caught with.

“(When I saw Jones confess) I was like ‘Wow, it was actually true,'” Cormier explained. “Because I had heard it. I heard it for years, but I didn’t use it (as trash talk) because I couldn’t prove that it was true. It was true.

“The reality is, if it’s true, and with Jones’s history, if you believe that it was for marijuana you’re as stupid as him,” Cormier said. “You’re as dumb as him because come on, that’s the dumbest excuse. ‘I smoked that, so that’s why.’ Come on man. That’s not true, man. Come on. I’m sorry Jones, I’m not buying it. I’m sorry Jones. You were cheating man. You were cheating just like all those other times and you got scared. He hid underneath the Octagon, but boy you’ve got to have a criminal mindset to know that that’s the place they’re not going to look.”

From there, Daniel Cormier takes a second to laugh as he thought about the possible situations Jones found himself in, under an Octagon. However he is not reveling in this moment. Instead he feels that this should have been the moment that Jon realized he was on the wrong path.

“That probably should have been rock bottom. Honestly. Like ‘Oh I’m doing things so wrong that I’m hiding underneath the Octagon from drug testers,'” Cormier said. “Jeeze man, but the discipline to sit under there all that time is crazy.

“Listen, the guy failed drug tests on multiple occasions after we fought, before we fought,” Cormier continued. “I know that the guy does bad things, so to hear that that was real it was very discouraging. It sucks because like I said a number of times, I don’t think the guy needed all that stuff to win the fights. He could win a fight with anybody any time. He just does not need to be doing those things.

“What about the rest of the people though?” Cormier concludes. “How do you look at everybody else? This was not done individually. So who else was involved in him doing that? You know what I’m saying? You’ve got to look at a lot of people in that gym and go wow, you’ve guys are kind of dirty a little bit.”

Daniel Cormier certainly brings up some good points about this confession from Jon Jones and how bizarre the situation is. So much of Jon’s legacy is marred with drug testing controversies, and this recent revelation just seems to make that worse.
