Daniel Cormier, a UFC champ smashed Volkan Oezdemir at the UFC 220 (PPV) event earlier this month in Boston. Cormier was presented with the opportunity to move to the heavyweight division for a super fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. Even his longtime friend Cain Velasquez also gave his blessing to him.
Before the fight was signed, Cormier was not ready to clash with “baddest man on the planet” for a small $500,000. So he made a call to Miocic and demanded more. Even Miocic also confirmed that he spoke with Cormier before the fight was signed, and they both came to some sort of mutual agreement.
Stipe Miocic, a heavyweight champion, and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will square off in what both expect to be one of the biggest fights in the history of the sport on July 7 at UFC 226. But not before they complete several weeks together as opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter.”(TUF). It’s the fight everyone is talking about right now.

“I did speak with [Stipe Miocic before the fight was done]. I spoke with Stipe, I called Stipe. Obviously, you know, great guy, I got to spend some time with him, fantastic champion, just a pillar of his community. I can’t say enough good things about Stipe Miocic. With that being said, I told Stipe for $500,000, I’m not fighting Stipe Miocic. I threw out a big number and said for that number, I’m fighting Stipe Miocic. He goes, ‘I f-cking love you.’ That’s what he said. I said for the right numbers we need to do this. His wife is in the back going, ‘Yes, DC!’”
