- Daniel Cormier thinks neither Jon Jones nor Stipe Miocic would fight Tom Aspinall if someone gets hurt ahead of UFC 309
- DC assumes the UFC will book “Honey Badger” against Ciryl Gane if that would be the case
Daniel Cormier is certain both Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic wouldn’t be interested in taking on Tom Aspinall at UFC 309.
DC thinks Tom isn’t getting it
Aspinall has long been expressing his desire and eagerness to face “Bones” and cement his name as the greatest fighter of all time. He remains hopeful that it would come to reality once Miocic gets hurt, having been named the official backup fighter for Jones vs. Miocic at UFC 309.
However, Cormier speculated that Aspinall facing Jones or Miocic if someone gets injured heading into the fight wouldn’t be a possibility. According to DC, “Bones” and Miocic are exclusively interested in facing each other and nobody else at this point which is why Miocic declined to fight Sergei Pavlovich when “Bones” got hurt ahead of their first title fight date.
“If one of those dudes gets hurt, neither one of them is fighting Tom Aspinall. You’re out of your mind. No way. When Jon Jones got hurt the first time, Sergei Pavlovich was the backup fighter. Who fought?!,” Cormier told Chael Sonnen on the Good Guy / Bad Guy show.
Well, who would love the idea of fighting Tom though?😎
Daniel Cormier @dc_mma is confident neither Jon Jones, nor Stipe Miocic will agree to fight @AspinallMMA as the backup fighter of UFC309 main event…
Thoughts?

A new heavyweight fight will take place
Cormier suggested that the UFC will be prompted to book a new heavyweight title fight altogether in case Jones or Miocic gets hurt. The way DC sees it, it would be Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane.
“If somebody gets hurt, get ready for Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane. Mark my words,” Cormier speculated.
Aspinall’s interest in fighting Jones has become a common knowledge in the UFC these days. In fact, “Honey Badger” is so desperate to replace Miocic that he previously claimed the former heavyweight champ got hurt while in training camp. As expected, Miocic dismissed the rumor and called it “fake news.”
UFC 309 will take place on November 16 at Madison Square Garden, New York.
