UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier sat down with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi to discuss his next appearance inside the ring and it won’t be for a mixed martial arts event.

On October 8th, the heavyweight icon will head to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia for WWE Extreme Rules. ‘DC’ will make his first appearance in the world of sports entertainment, acting as the special guest referee for the ‘Fight Pit’ match between former UFC fighter turned WWE Superstar Matt Riddle and Quad City native Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins

As the two discussed his appearance for the professional wrestling organization, gears shifted to another major event happening later this month, the pay-per-view showdown between social media star Jake Paul and UFC legend Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva. Asked his thoughts on the fight, Cormier confirmed he was backing Silva to get the win, but refuses to discredit Jake Paul as a legitimate fighter and threat.

“I think Anderson Silva wins the fight. And if Jake Paul wins, he’s a kid that’s in his prime and I see that knowing that now Jake Paul can fight. Like, the guy can fight. I’m done being of the people saying that this kid’s a joke. [Paul] is not a joke. The kid can fight and there are many reasons as to why he can fight. It’ll be tough for Anderson, but for all that he’s done… Anderson beating Cesar Chavez Jr is bigger and better than anything he’s ever done.

“He beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr even though he’s a bit of a mess-up right? But here’s the deal though, he’s a kid that grew up around the sport. Fathered one of the greatest boxers of all time. Fought some of the biggest and best names of all time. Was a world champion. There’s a lot built into that. Anderson will beat that dude. That is much different than beating Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley twice, and whatever the YouTube guy was. Those guys were wrestlers to box. Chavez never wrestled. He’s a guy that picked the boxing gloves as a kid and fought all the way to professional. Made a whole bunch of money and everything. That is the biggest moment between the two and the biggest accomplishment between the two.”

While Daniel Cormier was more than complimentary of Jake Paul’s skills inside the ring, ‘DC’ wanted to reiterate that he is picking Anderson Silva to score the win on October 29th.

“Anderson wins the fight. Anderson wins the fight.”

Daniel Cormier on The Future of Nate Diaz

Following his UFC 279 main event win over Tony Ferguson on September 10th, UFC fan favorite Nate Diaz walked away from the promotion after 15 years. While the ‘Stockton Samurai’ is yet to confirm his next move, many anticipate Diaz will step into the squared circle for a high-profile boxing match with YouTube star Jake Paul. Asked what he thinks is next for the man from 209, Daniel Cormier said:

“I think he goes to fight Jake Paul. I think that probably makes the most sense. Go fight Jake Paul. Go make your money. Nate Diaz is bulletproof. It doesn’t matter if he wins or loses, he’s bulletproof man. People love him and they’re gonna love him regardless of the outcome. If I was Nate Diaz, I’d go cash the biggest check I can and if that’s Jake Paul, I’d go fight Jake Paul.”

Of course, Nate Diaz and Daniel Cormier have found themselves in a bit of a beef with one another after Cormier went on record believing that Diaz would have lost to his original UFC 279 opponent Khamzat Chimaev. Diaz didn’t take kindly to the comment and chose to respond in classic Nate Diaz fashion on Twitter. “Respect your OG you fat motherf*cker,” tweeted Diaz.

‘DC’ briefly responded to Diaz’s aggressive response.

“I don’t even know why Nate was mad though. Like, I don’t even get why he was mad. It’s like the craziest thing. He wakes up in the morning and chooses, ‘I’m gonna attack DC.’

“I said he was gonna lose to Khamzat Chimaev, but do you think he was going to be Khamzat Chimaev? I’m just the guy that says it. Because I say it, I got the biggest voice for people to come out.”
