Dana White Interested In Ferguson Vs. Nurmagomedov, Mcgregor Vs. Poirier Rematch, And Winners Fight Each Other

UFC Head Honcho Wants Mcgregor vs. Poirier 2, Khabib vs. Ferguson

Last night after the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale, UFC president Dana White said on a post-fight show on FOX Sports 1 that he wants Conor Mcgregor to face Dustin Poirier in a rematch and undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov to defend a title against Tony Ferguson, with winners go on to fight each other.

Currently, Mcgregor and Khabib are facing further fines and sanctions with Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). Both fighters are ordered to appear at a disciplinary hearing which will go down on Dec. 10 for their role at UFC 229 post-fight brawl. (h/t MMAFighting)

“The fight that makes sense right now is probably [Dustin] Poirier,” White said of McGregor’s potential return. “And then Tony [Ferguson] gets a shot at the title and the two winners fight each other.

“But I’m not sure exactly on a date when Conor’s going to fight yet. We have to get through this Nevada State Athletic Commission stuff first.”

To remind you, McGregor already defeated Poirier in their first outing four years ago at UFC 178 via first-round TKO in a featherweight bout. Surging UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier was scheduled to face Nate Diaz in a highly anticipated fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 230, but ‘Diamond’ forced to withdraw due to injury. Poirier is currently 8-1 (1 NC) record in his return to the lightweight division and holds notable wins over the likes of like Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje and Anthony Pettis.

Most recently Khabib Nurmagomedov scores a fourth-round submission win over Mcgregor at UFC 229 and solidifies his status as a no.1 lightweight contender. Shortly after the talks of rematch buzzing, but Dana White favored Tony Ferguson is legitimate next challenger to get a crack at Khabib’s title. Both fighters scheduled to fight each other four times, but each time fight fall apart for a variety of reasons.

White also dismissed the rumors of Donald Cerrone fighting Irishman.

“The ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone fight has never, ever been discussed,” White said. “That’s completely not true.”

Shortly after Dana White announced his plans for the lightweight division, Poirier took to Twitter to react to this fantastic news.

Nothing is official as of yet; it’s just what Dana White wants. Anyway, it’d be interesting to see if these matchups come to fruition.
