Dana White States UFC Let Sage Northcutt Go

Dana White: “Sage Northcutt Needs Work In Some Other Organizations, Maybe We’ll Pick Him Back Up Again”

Sage Northcutt is a free agent at the moment. His eight-fight contract expired, and “Super” didn’t renew it. He wasn’t cut from the promotion, but nobody tried to persuade him to think of staying!

Dana White says UFC let Sage Northcutt go because he is a young fighter and needs some work. The UFC president didn’t exclude the possibility of giving him the chance again after a few years. (h/t MMAMania.com)

“We let Sage go,” White told UFC Unfiltered. “Sage is young and Sage needs some work. Let him get some work in some other organizations and we will see where this kid ends up in a couple of years. Maybe we will pick him back up again.”

Sage Northcutt (6-2 UFC, 11-2 MMA) signed his UFC contract when he was only 19 years old, which makes him one of the youngest fighters in the history of this sport. His most notable victims were Enrique Marin, Thibault Gouti, and Zak Ottow. He was defeated only twice, to Mickey Gall and Bryan Barbarena, both times by submission. He is only 22 years old.

At the beginning of September this year, Sage Northcutt announced his plans of moving to Bellator or ONE FC. According to Northcutt, UFC needs a fighter and an entertainer at the same time. “Super” also commented Asian and Scott Coker promotion offered better paydays.

Three weeks ago, Sage Northcutt attended ONE Championship event. Officially, he didn’t sign any contract. But the former UFC Welterweight fighter is fielding offers at the moment.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree that Sage Northcutt is too young? Does he need more experience? Do you think Dana White should never let him go? His fabulous strikes made UFC fans go wild so many times!

  1. Makes absolute sense. For a guy with his skill set he’s been in a some dire snoozefests and lost to bums that my Grandma would scorpion kick out cold. Hopefully he’ll come back with more confidence and show us what he’s really capable of.

  2. Total Bellator fighter! All about name selling, but not having the ability to be a top 5 fighter in his weight class. Probably top 10 is tough for most Bellator fighters. His name and Physic is what Bellator wants. And yes the new UFC has become more like Bellator on name selling, but they are not as bad as Bellator yet.
